Avenue of Spies
Avenue of Spies tells the tale of an American doctor and his French wife, who along with their only son (a teenager at the time), participated in the rescue of Allied airmen and in espionage for the French resistance, all while living on the same street as the occupying Nazis.
I had high expectations of a book with such an intriguing title but was a little bit disappointed in this read. Author Alex Kershaw obviously did a lot of painstaking research, so I found his work to read more like a textbook at times than a novel. There was no dialogue at all. I'm sure he did this to make it more historically accurate, but I'm afraid it made the story a little boring for me.
I did learn a lot about the resistance in France, though, and I'm always grateful to read about unsung heroes like the main characters of this book.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
