Last Tuesday night (after dark), the boys were playing "Capture the Flag" with some friends who were visiting from out of town. Then Nathan came running in with blood flowing down his face saying "Noah bit me!"
I'm thinking "Wow! He must have bit you hard! And why would he bite you on the forehead??"
Then Noah comes in with half of a permanent tooth missing. Fortunately, he just missed severing the nerve, so he was not in much pain.
The boys simply collided in the dark. Noah was coming from uphill - otherwise it would have been pretty hard for his tooth to be on the same level as Nathan's forehead.
We used superglue and butterfly bandages to fix Nathan (the cut was quite deep), and our dentist fixed Noah. Noah will have to have a crown on this tooth when he is an adult, and it may require being fixed several times before then.
Nathan did not want to have his picture taken, but I thought the event was too "classic" to go undocumented.
That's amazing (and tragic)! I forgot how dangerous it is to be a young boy.
ReplyDeleteWhich one of you did the super glue and butterfly bandages? Nathan doesn't look too thrilled with the results. Noah, on the other hand, looks like he'd go right back out and play some more.
ReplyDeleteTerry is always the surgeon here. Nathan was a basket case. He was just really shaken up by the whole thing. And you are right, Noah didn't really seem to care. He was having fun posing for snaggle-tooth pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is where is the rest of the tooth? Did you look for it in the grass? Also, how did this happen without Noah getting a busted lip? I guess he was just running with his mouth open?
ReplyDeleteWe did look for the rest of the tooth in the grass but never found it. Nathan was afraid it was in his brain, but I am pretty certain this is not the case.

I think the picture says it all (great photo). Hopefully they both recover well.
ReplyDeleteTell Nathan I understand how he feels (well, sort of). I had my head collide with a dog's tooth last week and I think it may count as a near-death experience to have one's head collide with something so small and hard, regardless of whether or not you bleed to death. I'm pretty sure it rattles your brain enough to make you avoid whatever might cause that to happen again, so it is actually more traumatic than it seems like it would be.
